National Affairs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced a newborn calf,
‘Deepjyoti’, born at his official residence at Lok Kalyan
Marg, New Delhi. Sharing a video on X, PM Modi revealed
that the calf, with a unique light-like mark on its forehead,
inspired the name ‘Deepjyoti’, which translates to ‘light of
the lamp’.

The Honorable Vice President of India Shri. Jagdeep
Dhankhar has inaugurated the “Constitutional Temple –
Samvidhan Mandir” at 433 Industrial Training Institutes
across Maharashtra. This programme was organized by the
Maharashtra Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and
Innovation Department.

The GST Council has constituted a 13-member Group of
Ministers (GoM) to review and suggest GST rates on health
and life insurance premiums. The report is due by October
30, 2024, and Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary leads
the group. The decision was made during the 54th GST
Council meeting on September 9, 2024. A final decision
will be made in November based on the GoM’s
recommendations.

Typhoon Yagi recently struck Southeast Asia, the
government of India has launched Operation Sadbhavana,
a humanitarian initiative aimed at providing crucial
assistance to affected countries. This operation exemplifies
India’s commitment to its Act East Policy and its role as a
first responder in providing Humanitarian Assistance and
Disaster Relief (HADR) to nations in need.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first
Namo Bharat Rapid Rail on September 16, 2024, which will
operate between Ahmedabad and Bhuj. Known as the
Vande Metro, this new train covers a 360-kilometre
distance in 5 hours and 45 minutes, making stops at nine
stations along the route.

Cambodia’s Angkor Wat has been recognized as the most
photogenic UNESCO World Heritage site in Asia by Times
Travel, as announced by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun
Manet on September 15. This accolade was revealed
through a post on his official Telegram channel, featuring
Times of India’s list of Asia’s top ten most photogenic
UNESCO sites.

The Union Cabinet has approved several key proposals
with a total outlay exceeding ₹60,000 crore, covering areas
from agriculture to space exploration. The much-
anticipated ‘One Nation, One Poll’ policy, enabling
simultaneous elections across India, also received approval.
Additionally, the PM-AASHA scheme was revamped with a
₹35,000 crore budget to ensure Minimum Support Prices
(MSP) for farmers. The Cabinet also sanctioned a
₹24,474.53 crore subsidy on phosphatic and potassic (P&K)
fertilizers for the 2024-25 rabi season.
- The Union Cabinet has approved the Biotechnology Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (Bio-RIDE) scheme to boost biotechnology research, innovation, and entrepreneurship with an outlay of ₹9,197 crore for the 15th Finance Commission period (2021-22 to 2025-26).
- The Central government has allocated Rs 12,554 crore to various states this year for relief and rehabilitation of thoseaffected by natural disasters.This includes funding from multiple disaster relief and mitigation funds.
- The union cabinet chaired by the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the building of the first unit of the Bharatiya Anatriksh Station (BAS) by extending the scope of Gaganyaan program.

President Droupadi Murmu attended the Safai Mitra Sammelan in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.The Safai Mitra Sammelan was organized as part of the fortnightly Swachhata Hi Seva—2024 campaign launched by the government of India.
- Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the Second Edition of the Inclusion Conclave organized by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), India in New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports, Ms. Raksha Nikhil Khadse was also present on the occasion.
- The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) on September 18, 2024. Designed to mirror the IITs and IIMs, this initiative aims to bolster India’s position as a global content hub, enhancing the country’s soft power and attracting foreign investments in the media andentertainment sector. The centre will be located in Mumbai as a Section 8 Company under the Companies Act, 2013.
- The nuclear power reactor that achieved criticality is the first of a new series of Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) to be built at Rajasthan Atomic Power Project in Rawatbhata.
