UAE President Declares 2025 as the ‘Year of Community’

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced that 2025 will be celebrated as the “Year of Community.” This national initiative, under the slogan “Hand in Hand,” aims to foster unity and inclusion within society. The campaign focuses on strengthening family bonds, preserving cultural heritage, nurturing intergenerational ties, and creating inclusive spaces for collaboration. It encourages community service, volunteering, and impactful initiatives that promote shared responsibility and collective progress.

Odisha Warriors Clinch Inaugural Women’s Hockey India League Title

The Odisha Warriors, captained by Janneke Schopman, secured their place in history by winning the inaugural Women’s Hockey India League title. JPC Clears Waqf Amendment Bill 2024

The Joint Committee of Parliament (JPC) has approved the Waqf Amendment Bill of 2024. This legislation seeks to update the Waqf Act of 1995 to improve the management of Waqf properties. Key amendments include extending the registration period for Waqf properties and appointing a senior government official as the arbiter in disputes. The bill, which has sparked intense debates, also incorporates a Muslim law expert in the Waqf tribunal. While NDA MPs proposed and supported 14 amendments, 44 opposition-suggested amendments were rejected. The Opposition raised concerns about potential government interference in religious matters.

RBI Sets Interest Rate for GOI Floating Rate Bonds 2035

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a 6.66% annual interest rate for the Government of India Floating Rate Bonds 2035 (GOI FRB 2035). Effective from January 25, 2025, to January 24, 2030, this rate is based on the prevailing 5-year yield on Government of India securities as of the last working day before each five-year period begins.

Cabinet Approves National Critical Mineral Mission with Rs 16,300 Crore Outlay

The Union Cabinet approved the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) with a budget of Rs 16,300 crore. This initiative aims to achieve self-reliance and accelerate India’s green energy transition by promoting the exploration of critical minerals such as copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, and rare earths within the country and offshore. The mission includes financial incentives for exploration, fast-track regulatory approvals, and the development of mineral processing parks. Public sector enterprises are expected to contribute an additional Rs 18,000 crore.
