Selection Procedure

Appointment & Terms of Contract
- Issuance of Appointment Letter
- The selected candidates will receive an Appointment Letter, subject to the following conditions:
a. The candidate must be medically fit, as verified by a designated Medical Board.
b. Fulfillment of all eligibility criteria, including document verification and background checks.
- The selected candidates will receive an Appointment Letter, subject to the following conditions:
- Contract Tenure
- The appointment is purely on a contractual basis for one year, extendable up to the specified tenure mentioned in Table 1.4.
- The maximum tenure of the contractual appointment shall not exceed the fixed tenure mentioned in Table 1.4.
- If the contract is not extended, it will automatically lapse.
- The contract may be terminated at any time by either party with one month’s notice or one month’s salary in lieu of notice, without assigning any reason.
- If the contractual faculty is found incompetent within three months of joining, their appointment may be terminated with approval from the competent authority.
- Medical Fitness
- The appointment is subject to medical fitness as determined by a competent medical board.
- Remuneration
- The fixed consolidated monthly remuneration for the Professor position is as per Table 1.3.
- On appointment, the candidate must take an oath of allegiance to the Constitution of India or submit a solemn affirmation in the prescribed format.
- Work Responsibilities
- The appointee must perform the assigned duties diligently.
- The Competent Authority reserves the right to assign additional duties related to Shillong Medical College without providing extra allowances.
- Exclusion from Government Benefits
- The appointee will not be entitled to:
- General Provident Fund (GPF)
- Pension & Gratuity
- Other benefits applicable to regular government servants
- The period of contractual service will not be counted for seniority or promotion in case of a future regular appointment.
- However, Associate Professors appointed under this contract may be designated as Professors after four years and three years of tenure, respectively, as per NMC TEQ regulations.
- The appointee will not be entitled to:
- Employment Bond
- The appointee must sign a fixed-term bond of one year.
- Early termination of the bond is not permitted under normal circumstances.
- In case of early resignation, a penalty fee proportional to the remaining bond period may be imposed.
- No Right to Regular Appointment
- The appointee shall not have any claim or right to regular appointment in Shillong Medical College.
- Exclusive Employment Requirement
- The appointee must not accept any other assignment, paid or otherwise, during their tenure.
- Private practice, including laboratory and consultancy work, is strictly prohibited.
- No TA/DA for Interview & Joining
